HARRISBURG, Pa.—A pair of bipartisan lawmakers announced that they will introduce legislation that would levy a tax on online pornography transactions in the state of Pennsylvania, according to local news reports.
Pennsylvania state Sens. Marty Flynn (D) and Joe Picozzi (R) issued a legislative memorandum on Oct. 15 on this bill.
“In the near future, we will be introducing legislation to impose an additional 10 percent tax on subscriptions to and one-time purchases from online adult content platforms,” says the legislative memorandum seen by AVN. “This tax will be applied in addition to the Commonwealth’s existing 6 percent sales and use tax, ensuring that Pennsylvania captures revenue from this rapidly growing sector of the digital economy.”
The memo adds, “All revenue collected under this legislation will be deposited into the General Fund, where it can support critical state priorities such as education, public safety, and health services.”
Since the legislative memorandum was issued, the legislation has been drafted for consideration.
