LOS ANGELES—The Italian government’s communications regulator announced Friday that pornography websites operating within Italy’s digital space will have to implement age verification starting November 12. Such a policy stems from a recent body of law that prohibits age verification to “protect minors.”
The Italian Communications Regulatory Authority (AGCOM) will enforce age verification systems requirements for sites like Pornhub and OnlyFans. The “Caivano Decree,” or Resolution 96/25/CONS, is the body of law that mandated age verification requirements throughout all of Italy.
AGCOM released a document listing websites that will be impacted by the age verification requirements set to take effect in the middle of the month. 45 websites are currently targeted for enforcement action, including various platforms owned by Aylo (e.g., Pornhub, YouPorn and RedTube), XNXX, XVideos, Stripchat and others.
The regulator added that if these sites fail to comply with AGCOM requirements, they will face civil warnings and fines of up to €250,000 (about $290,000).
